A General Packing Guide for Travelers on Mission Trips to Third World countries*

Travel documents (required):

  • Valid passport (Make a photocopy. Check so your name on it matches your ID).

  • Visa (where required)

Clothing: (Generally, light and loose clothing with good walking shoes are recommended)

  • Long, loose pants++ (recommended in rural areas)

  • Hanky/bandanna++

  • Hat (to block the sun)++

  • Spare socks/tank top++

  • Sun-screen

  • Sunglasses

  • Tank top/singlets++ (for walking in humid conditions)

  • Walking/hiking shoes (for mountainous/rough terrains)

  • Sandals (only wear near hotels and city)

Travel items/backpacking:

  • Alarm clock ++

  • Bottled water + (make sure cap is sealed)

  • Cash  (for country of destination) ++

  • Chewable snacks/energy bars (remember, chocolates melt)

  • Electronics (e.g. camera, battery++, film++, AC plug adapter)

  • Hand sanitizer+

  • Insect repellents

  • Medication/special needs (your personal medication, - we provide first aid)

  • Medications/pills (e.g. Immodium, motion sickness pills, sleeping pills, etc.)

  • 2 Pocket flashlight (LED)

  • Spare change of clothes++ 

  • Toiletries++ (e.g. toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, razor, comb, mouth freshener, moist towelettes, toilet paper – toilet paper is not available)

  • Ziploc bags (when boat traveling involved to store electronic items)

  • Pocket size Kleenex
